Ellsbury update: No baseball activity for one week

Yesterday, we learned that Jacoby Ellsbury was dealing with a mild abdomen strain. It wasn’t supposed to be a big deal, just a day-to-day sort of malady. Today, an MRI confirmed Ellsbury’s injury. Although it verified the initial diagnosis, the Yankees are now planning to keep Ellsbury out of any baseball activities for seven days.

Fortunately, the injury is minor and it’s early enough in spring training that Jacoby won’t miss any regular season time assuming there aren’t any setbacks. When he returns to workouts and potentially games late next week, he’ll still have nearly two weeks to prepare for Opening Day. It goes without saying that the Yankees can’t afford to lose Ellsbury, arguably their best position player, for a significant amount of time. So hopefully there are no setbacks and Jacoby can get back in the swing of things as soon as possible.
